Beyond the HYPE
I watched A&E's Biography of Tony Robbins today. It was made back in 2000. There didn't seem to be much investigation that took place. In fact, the narrator used Tony's exact words to describe parts of his past (as mentioned in his books). So much for investigative journalism.
But what really stuck out for me was the hype, the salemanship. He is great at it. Yet is it effective for personal development? Is make them feel good, have them walk across hot coals, pound on their chest, and scream at the top of their lungs really leading to a lifestyle change?
What happens when the adrenaline rush wears off? What then? Oh, I know. Sign up for the next event. Does it generate money? In the short run, yes. Does it change lives? Perhaps for some.
Don't get me wrong. I am not knocking Tony. Me and thousands of others have discovered NLP because of him. No doubt, he's helped put it on the map. And I think some people leave his seminars changed to some degree, and others still who are now open to new possibilities.
So what do I recommend as the next step? Self-inquiry.
This is where I am at in my own path during this sabbatical. Learn the tools and then begin applying them to yourself. Discover the most important person in the world, YOU!
Go beyond the hype of changing your life and actually begin changing it. You'll thank you for it!
