Utilize The Power Of Directional Language

Don't think that your language alone can make a huge difference in the amount of success that appears in your life. I wouldn't dare make such a claim. But it has been known to happen.

I met this young lady a while back, and we started talking about her life and her family. She remarked that her sister had some sort of emotional disorder where she would do whatever you told her not to do. Imagine that a nine or ten year old, not listening. Her family had already labeled her disabled. So I just briefly commented, "How about telling her what you want her to do instead." I had to repeat that about three times before she got it herself. And the third time I had to use double negatives, "Don't tell her what not to do!"

Think about it for a moment, what mental representation do you have to hold in your head when someone says, "Don't think of purple rhino with a giraffe's body." Negation is a process that occurs after the fact. In one sense you really can't negate at all. You either think of something else all together, or perhaps X it out, or something along those lines to negate it.

How many times have you ever said either to yourself or someone else, "Don't forget such and such!" And then did. Well, of course, you or they both listen really well and had a good idea of what you wanted, and were able to forget completely. Now if you would have said, "Remember to such and such!" You might have had a different outcome.

Now it is perfectly fine to use negatives. And don't think that is very easy to do with some practice, just remember to use them in a way that creates the right mental image for them, or yourself. Remember that is where it all begins. If you are using the right kinds of directional language inside your own head, then won't be as easy for it to manifest coming out of your mouth. There is an old saying about Westerners that "What is on the mind, is on the tongue." Now if that really holds true then we have to make sure the right kinds of things are on our minds, or we better start using some knots on our tongue.
