What is Hypnosis
Hypnosis is a focused state of concentration directed inward. In
this state, a person may experience mental and physical
relaxation as well. This state also alters the brainwave
frequencies.
Understanding Brainwave Frequencies
When you are fully awake, perhaps as you are reading now, your
brainwave frequency is in the Beta range (14 cycles per second
or faster). And once you close your eyes and take a few deep
breaths, your brainwave frequencies will begin to slow down
under 14 cps, and you will enter into the Alpha range (7 cps to
14 cps). Theta and Delta are even slower brainwave frequencies,
yet Alpha is more useful when utilizing hypnosis. Everyone accesses all four brainwave frequencies. They cycle through them
each day as they go to sleep and wake up.
In a session, the client is led into this hypnotic state, or
slower brainwave frequency, by the hypnotherapist. There is a
specific process to enter into this state and is done so with
the intent of the client. The client is in complete control at
all times. The hypnotherapist is only facilitates the process.
The client chooses to make the changes. Understanding this helps
eliminate the fear and mystery that has surrounded hypnosis for
centuries.
The Unconscious Mind and Suggestions
During this hypnotic state, you will find that the "critical
factor" or the "intellect" does not interfere as you begin
making changes at the unconscious level. The unconscious mind is
the store house of all your programs and patterns that are
on automatic pilot. Most of these programs and patterns were
formed at an early age and have never been reevaluated with
adult knowledge or insight. And as a result, our maps quite old
and limiting.
Along with NLP and EFT processes, suggestions can also be used
in this hypnotic state. Suggestions are used to assist you in
rewriting these programs and patterns to be in line with your
desired outcome. Any suggestion that does not
fit for you will not be accepted by you. You the mind have the
final say so over which programs and behavior patterns are to be
altered and to what extent.
